Wheelchair Ramp Plans
It is not difficult to decide for the people who want to build their own wheelchair ramps. It is hard to do the project alone but with the help of your friends, it can be easy. Today, it is very easy to get information about the plans of wheelchair plans. You have to search internet in which you have to look through sites and collect the information regarding your task. You can also go to the wheelchair manufacturer and get instruction from it and hardware store has also information about this. Now if you want to make a ramp, then modular wheelchair ramps are easily constructed from the plans. You can make modular ramps in a small area like in a garage and keep it in one side of the house’s store. In ramps, wood ramp can easily be made and conveniently installed in the place. If you get the instruction from an experienced person, then follow it strictly and measurement is one of the basic things which is not to be ignored. Every length and width of the ramps have their specific measurement which is in American Disabled Acts codes. For wooden ramps, use high quality of wood which is hard and is difficult to be broken. Plywood is not so hard and easy to be broken and be slippery in wet condition.
If you have decided wholeheartedly about the plan, then bring the required material and give design to the ramp according to the location. First measure space of the land and match the width of the ramp and door. The slope of the ramps is important which must be considered the ramps are not steeper than a 1:2 ratio. Normally the recommended slope is 1:16 or 1:30 because it gives benefits to manual wheelchair. One does not have to exert much force from one end to other end.
The structure consists of a 16"x5" ramp and 5"x 5" platform. It is connected to small latches on both sides. It has two parts to move easily and ramp and the platform are with locking swivel casters in order to roll the ramp to avoid the carrying of ramp. The ramp and platform were constructed with 1-1/2” of square tubing and have 1inch square braces in the floor and hand railing. There is a metal cover on the surface of the wheelchair ramps. It also has a kick plate that keeps the feet and front of wheelchair under the hand rails. The ramp has height of 3" in the front and one inch at the rear. There is another below ramp which is made of square tubing covered of metal.
In the whole process, you should keep some points in the mind that the ramps you are going to plan follow the principle of American Disabled Acts. If there is any point which is different from principles of ADA, then modify it according to the rules of ADA. Plan the ramps according to the needs of the individual. You should look at the condition of the location where you want to install the wheelchair ramp.
