Commode is a French word, which means convenient or suitable. But in the beginning it meant a cabinet which has one or more doors. The cabinet has also a washed stand with a washbasin and a water pitcher. Today in English, the word toilet is used instead of commode to avoid the expression of offense.There are different types of commodes with different designs and structure. Now it depends on the attitudes of users which one he prefers to use for himself. Every person has his own choice to select commode. The new technology of toilet is the electric super-toilets which were at first in Japan and now the technology is penetrating the American market. The manufacturers are now attempting to create the super commodes with different features like integrated speakers which give sounds of fake flushing to hide the embarrassing noises. Some of the commodes have various sensors which monitor blood pressure, body temperature and blood sugar levels and inform the user when the levels of these are not within the normal range.

If the commode is leaking, then a wax ring is used on the bent area to prevent the leakage. Wax ring is used to create watertight seal where there are joints and it also acts as a gasket.
Porcelain commode is more suitable for the closet flange with two bolts. For fixing, flat perpendicular metal pieces are used which are welded to each bolts in the bottom and the metal pieces are inserted into slots in the flange when the toilet is laid over the bolts and then is tightened down, they give a strong connection to the flange and floor.
Now different heights of chairs are available for raising the toilet and it is the need of today. Some of the raised seats are available without arms which do not fully support but sometimes the presence of grab bar do the supporting task. Some seats are available with adjustable height and they give more comfort to get on and off the commode.
