There are two types of electric wheelchair; rear and front wheel driven electric wheelchair. For driving the electric wheelchairs, there are two methods used in the form of central driving or four wheel driving. These electric wheelchairs are available in the market in different models, sizes, foldable models, disassembled models. Full featured electric wheelchair and with large size is called rehab chairs which are also easily available in the market. These wheelchairs are being manufactured for those persons who are suffering from arm and leg disability. There are many features which have been inserted with these wheelchairs. These are helping disabled people.As electric wheelchair's name is showing that these wheelchairs run with the help of electricity, there are motors attached with them. These motors run on 4 to 5 ampere rechargeable batteries. These motors are similar to outboard boat engines. There are two types of these batteries in the shapes of dry and wet. If we talk about which motor is easy to use then dry motor is preferred. The battery chargers are used to charge the batteries which are attached with these batteries. These batteries are easy to recharge by just inserting in outlets on the walls.
The electric wheelchairs are controlled in two ways; by joystick and by a controller. There are other controllers like hand controller, chin controllers, and puff or sack controllers particularly made for those persons who have unstable level of functions. These controllers are most expensive part or equipment of wheelchairs and they are quite weak. There are some operational functions attached with these wheelchairs in the forms of titling, reclining seat and leg elevators along with many other functions. All these functions are to benefit those persons who are suffering from above mentioned disabilities.
These chairs are also available for kids suffering from mental disabilities or who are affected by polio. These chairs are specifically designed under limitations of age. For example, the wheelchair for 9 year child differs from the wheelchair for 14 year child. These wheelchairs are used for both indoor and outdoor. In the past, the children affected by polio and paraplegics used hand support wheelchairs for many years. Those wheelchairs resulted in strains to those children. But now that electric wheelchairs are available in the market, the problem of strains is no more there.
These electric wheelchairs have revealed no exceptions for continuing their education, to go to the offices, go to markets for shopping or going to enjoy weekends. So we can say that these electric wheelchairs have helped in making these special persons as normal humans of the society. These wheelchairs are coming in the form of foldable and portable models also, and these models require less space to store than a normal wheelchair. These can fit into buses, airplanes, trains, and in the cars also. These wheelchairs can be found easily in the markets of United States of America.
