The cuff of the crutches are of either plastic or metal and it is with distinguishing feature of V-type of opening in the front which in case of emergency allows you to slip out your arm.

The concept of crutches was introduced from the basic “T” used by Tiny Tim in a Christmas Carol. With the passage of time, the people with legs' problem started to adopt crutches. Today, crutches are very important which help to decrease uneasiness. The crutches also help the injured person to get recovered and assist in movement.

People who have the problem of leg or foot pain or injury, and weak muscles can take assistance from crutches. People who have unstable gait can also get benefit from using crutches. With the help of crutches, you get upright body movement which aids circulation, kidney and lung function and prevents the loss of calcium from the bones.

The function of crutches is to shift the force of upright movement from the legs to the upper body. There should be sufficient strength in your arm which can easily balance your body. When you start walking with crutches, then first shift gradually your whole weight to your legs then put the crutches in the point where you can stabilize yourself. While moving you have to transfer your weight to your arms and swing your body though the crutches.

Always put the crutches from 8 to 10 inches in front of you while standing. And don’t try to move quickly and keep the crutches close to your body.
